We have some amazing news! Steam Whistle’s Staff & Friends Art Show has raised over $1 900 through art sales for Movember!!

As many of you may know, we have been hosting monthly art exhibitions in our gallery to showcase local creative talent since 2000. We don’t charge rent for the gallery space, nor is a commission earned on any works that are sold.  At the close of each show, one piece from the show (of the artist’s choice) is donated to our permanent collection bringing further profile to artists through the thousands of visitors to the brewery annually. This past November, we hosted a Staff and Friends show in support of Movember.

The brewery employs  many creative folk and there has been a huge demand for a staff art show.  We had nearly 20 participants provide a total of 34 works of art.  We’d booked the show for the month of November at the beginning of the year so it seemed fitting that the proceeds, this year, would go towards Steam Whistle’s Movember team.

The opening reception not only had a silent auction for the art but we also had a few performances.  Steam Whistle’s very own, DJ Fields, provided the beat for the party and was accompanied by two performers: one artist did a live painting, which later was added to the silent auction, while alongside this we watched another performer tap dance to the beats DJ Fields was spinning.  It was a great party and on the opening night we raised over $1300 from the silent auction.  Over the course of the month we have continued to sell pieces from the show, being just shy of selling all the art that’s been donated for the cause.  On November 27th, we also hosted our second annual Prostate Olympics at the brewery raising close to $1000 for our Movember team. We also had a number of staff trying to raise money with raffles and prizes all contributing to the cause.

Our staff are full of talent and creativity and it’s so great when we can use this energy to come up with fun ways to raise awareness for important causes. We just received our results and we raised just over $1900 through art sales for the show.  Even after the opening night with the silent auction we sold an additional 7 pieces over the course of the month. We can’t thank all the Good Beer Folks who contributed enough. It is because of the diversity of the show that there was something for everyone with 25 out of 34 pieces being sold out!

In total, our efforts have raised over $3 000 for Movember! Cheers to that!
