Art Shows at Steam Whistle

On until May 5th in the Steam Whistle Gallery, this group show is an interactive and visual collaboration featuring over a dozen artists to raise awareness of green initiatives through cycling. This interdisciplinary show curated by Leveson Cocarell and Cotey Pope, will combine the visual aspects of drawing, printmaking, photography, collage, and sculpture on traditional and two-wheeled 'canvases'. Future Bikes is the bike revolution that aims to create an immersive experience unifying artists with the general public.

Opening May 7th and on until May 24th, this 3rd year OCAD photography show is an official entry in Toronto's annual Contact Photography Festival. The exhibition features Nasrin Arganvani Fard, Nathan Cyprys, Sherri Dawson, Brendan George Ko, Meryl McMaster, Darren Rigo & Luis Orlando Romero, whose work was selected through a juried committee. Grouped together based on artistic merit rather than overriding themes, these up-and-coming young artists offer unique insights into issues pertaining to the reinvention of the document, exploration of identity and historical vs. contemporary processes.

Pictured is a self portrait by Meryl McMaster where she projected images of the Native culture onto herself.

The International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) is a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, stimulating worldwide interest not only in astronomy, but in science in general, with a particular slant towards young people. A new selection of astronomical images, created by amateur and professional astronomers, photographers and artists from across Canada and celebrating 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy, is on display at Steam Whistle Brewing's gallery from May 27th to June 26th, 2009.

Steam Whistle Mail Bag

Hi, I'm currently serving overseas in Afghanistan. Sadly these are dry tours but for special occasions, they will let us have 2 beer.  Imagine my surprise when instead of the normal Coors Light, Bud or Canadian they handed me 2 tall cans of Steam Whistle.  It made my day, week and month. Thanks for sending some much appreciated brew to some very thirsty soldiers. I'm sending a pic of me with a can here in Afghanistan.

My name is Cpl Aaron Mustard and I am a very big fan of your Pilsner. I am currently deployed as part of Recce Squadron, 3 RCR Battle Group on Operation Athena in Kandahar, Afghanistan. We have been having a rough tour but every once and a while we get a chance to enjoy two alcoholic beverages per person. Just recently we were spoiled and received two tall cans of your Pilsner. I just want to say thank you for making such a great beer, and to whoever made it available to those of us overseas. Thank you again,

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say that our group had a great time on the Steam Whistle tour.  It was very fun, informative and interesting.  Our whole group loved it. The staff did an excellent job and appear to really enjoy their work. Thank you.

Here is a picture of the 29 women, from Piple who will be learning to read and write in Nepali for the first time in their 8 month Basic Literacy Class. Steam Whistle has been [a sponsor] with us for some years now.  Please thank all those who are involved in helping [fundraise] with your great beer.  And please tell everyone to think about how many women now, who are literate because of your help. Know that WELNepal has provided a library for the women of Piple, and it's a very busy library at that.  Also know that the women of Piple are now involved in our lecture series on women's empowerment and will continue to be part of our lectures on health, and ecology.
